The following five cards were taken from a complete set for demonstration purposes. All cards measure 2.5 inches by 5 inches and are made of wood:

TO PLAY: Each player receives four cards. The remainder are left stacked face down. The top card is drawn from the deck as a "starter" card. It is placed face up. Each player in turn finds a card that matches one of the pictures on the card(s) already played. If he matches a card, he draws another from the pile. If he cannot match a card, he draws another card and tries to play it. If he cannot play that card, he continues to draw cards until he can match one. The cards should be placed in such a way that unlike cards do not touch. The game is over when all of the cards are matched or when someone runs out of cards.

A MORE CHALLENGING GAME: This game is played for points. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.

Decide who goes first, second, third, etc. Each player receives two cards. One card from the remaining pile of cards is played face-up as a "starter" card. If the first player can match one of the pictures, he does so. he receives three points for a picture of Garuda or Hanuman, two points for a peacock or cow, and one point for an elephant or parrot that is matched. After this score is written down, his turn is over. He picks a card to replace the one playted. If he cannot match a card, he draws a card and forfeits his turn.

If a player can match both pictures with the card he is playing, he receives points for both. For example, a card with a cow and Garuda that is placed touching another card already played with a cow, and the adjoining card is Garuda, the player can join his card of cow and Garuda with those two, thereby receiving double points.

GAME OVER: When all cards have been picked up from the pile, each player gets one last turn to play one mare card. (Optional) Whatever point value that is left in each players' hand can be subtrtacted from his point total. This is not essential....players should decide on this optional ending rule at the beginning of the game, so all players agree.
